Tampa Bike Co-Op Update
The August edition of the Tampa Bike Co-Op went really smoothly. As the months go on we see more and more people attending meetings and therefore more people taking and giving to the co-op. It’s amazing to see everyone learning how to work on their bikes and being more involved. That is what the co-op is all about!
Special thanks to Tijuana Flats for donating food and to Se7en and Sam for teaching great workshops. Se7en’s outline for his nutrition workshop should be on the website soon.
We had an awesome article by fellow cyclist Eric Smithers in the paper last month on the co-op and other cool stuff some of us are involved in. You can read it here:
In case you missed it, our first critical mass has been getting rave reviews. An article here:
A Photo a Day and the Tampa Bike Co-Op teamed up to bring over a dozen bicycles to life. These bikes were used all weekend by people attending Geek Fest in Tampa August 1st-3rd.
Mike Weimar who put so much of his time and effort into this event and into repairing these old bicycles said that everyone enjoyed their experience with cycling around the event rather than using a car. Many couldn’t remember the last time they were even on bikes and couldn’t wait to get home and get one of their own. Everyone donated a lock when they returned their bikes and these will soon be donated to a local charity.
The co-op has big plans for the future and is hoping to get more involved with events like Geek Fest and other ways we can keep giving to our community. We can’t wait to start teaming up with local bike shops and others that want to become part of something bigger.
