July

July 21, 2008

The last co-op was a great one! The Bike Polo workshop was really fun and the rules and guidelines to the critical mass were extremely helpful.

Don’t forget some important dates coming up!

Tampa Critical Mass    July 25th – 7pm – Lowry Park Zoo

Next Tampa Bike Co-Op – August 4th – 8pm – Transitions Art Gallery

Workshops coming up include a lecture on proper nutrition during long rides and for everyday riding, plus a general “how to” on bicycle maintenance. Both of these workshops are going to provide great tips for better performance from your body and your bike!

We have had a lot of great news coming our way and have had a very productive July.

Mike Weimar, an avid cyclist and all around amazing photographer has teamed with the Tampa Bike Co-Op to bring bikes to people participating in Photo a Day.

Photo a Day holds a conference every year and this year it is in Tampa. Mike and a few other members from the co-op have fixed up over a dozen bikes for people attending the conference to ride.

As we all know, using a bicycle for transportation is a better choice, especially while just visiting a city. It is good exercise, you are helping the environment and you avoid lots of traffic. Plus, think of all the cool things you see when you are on your bike that you miss out on when in a car.

The conference members in exchange for free transportation will purchase a U-Lock for the bikes they use, and donate it when they return their bicycle. The Tampa Bike Co-Op will then be donating the bikes to an organization in the Bay Area.

The Tampa Bike Co-Op is also proud to announce that we have been offered a table at the Bicycle Bash in St. Petersburg on October 19th this year! We are really excited about this event. More details coming soon. Check out http://www.bicyclebash.com/ for more info.

The Co-Op website has a really cool Wheel Building Guide that Sam Ceckowski made and the Critical Mass flyer for your downloading pleasure.

We hope there is a great turn out this Friday for Critical Mass and for the Co-Op coming up. Everyone is doing great work in the community, and this is what the Tampa Bike Co-Op is all about.

Ride Safe, Ride in Solidarity.
