Google Maps now includes cycling directions
Google Maps has (finally!) added cycling directions as an option. The public launch was yesterday March 10, 2010.
For the Tampa Bay Area there is there is still much left to be desired as there are very few of the “green routes” (see video below for an explination).
In mapping a trip from Oldsmar to downtown Tampa, the drawn route did a good job of avoiding always treacherous Hillsborough Ave. for the most part except for where it dumped you out along the North side of the airport (and then cutting through the airport freight area and then the Drew Park industrial district)! There is an option to send Google your feedback on routes and corrections. I think if everyone put in their usual routes, took a look at what option Google gives you and sends them feedback, we could have a pretty solid network of bike-friendly routes in no time.
